Professional Hosting Solves Many Problems (April 1991)
"…we have recently conducted a number of product launches in the fragrance, toy and food sectors. In each case we provided professional demonstrators to promote, sample and sell our clients' products in different locations throughout the province for anywhere from two to four weeks. These were a success because:
- In most cases the promotion paid for itself in products sold;
- Our clients obtained market research data on such things as price, packaging and taste, gathered by each demonstrator and compiled by the agency;
- Tremendous product awareness was created.
- Trade and consumer shows are another area that has seen increased use of hosts and hostesses and entertainment. Professional hosts, hostesses and actors will increase attendance at a booth, provide information and literature and often increase sales by qualifying clients and generating sales leads.
- Announcers conduct microphone promotions, attract the public to the display and introduce the product. Hosts and hostesses pass out literature. By dealing directly with the public, they qualify potential buyers and immediately alert the company's salespersons. … Thus, the salesperson's time is used more efficiently, by selling to qualified leads instead of answering general questions.
- We have provided hostesses to co-ordinate draws for prizes. They attract people to a booth and obtain their business cards as entries for a draw, with the cards used later as sales leads. This has been proven to be a good lead-generation program."
